ASUS approach to updating its tablet range has been a bit peculiar so far. Instead of sending the better software to the high-end slates first, the company did the opposite. That is to say, while the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 already runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, the same cannot be said about the Transformer Pad Prime TF201 and Transformer Pad Infinity TF700.

Fortunately, the IT company is finally upgrading those two as well. Perhaps it took longer on purpose, to make sure that everything runs as well as possible. "We are pleased to announce that we will soon be rolling out the Android 4.1, Jelly Bean update for both the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) and ASUS Transformer Pad Prime (TF201)," the company said on its Facebook page.

All we can say is that the move is a bit overdue. ASUS promised the Jelly Bean 4.1 update all the way back in July (2012). Note that the Facebook post did not give an exact time frame for the over-the-air update. Fortunately, Technical Marketing Manager Gary Key took to the forums and said that the "release should be available within the next 72 hours.

Jelly Bean should bring a better overall performance, a smoother touchscreen response and enhancements to almost everything the tablet can do: data usage, face unlock, keyboard, networking, messaging and talk, notifications, calendar, camera and gallery, browser and WebView, accessibility, etc.

The change log is actually huge, so owners of either ASUS tablet may want to go on the Android official website and read it all while they wait for the remainder of those 72 hours to tick by. There should be two out of three days left. Unfortunately, we don't know when the software will reach buyers from outside the US and Canada. [IS]
